Union Grove High School senior sprinter Cassy Goodrich finally got what she’s been looking for the past four years at the WIAA State Track & Field Championships — a gold medal.
Goodrich, a four-time qualifier for the state meet, earned her elusive medal Saturday by winning her best event, the 400 meters, in a personal-best 55.35 seconds. That was 0.7 seconds faster than her previous best of 56.05 seconds.
Goodrich began her day by finishing third in the 100 meters in 12.21 and then finished her prep career by taking third in the 200 meters in 24.87. All three of her times Saturday broke her own school records. She won six medals in four trips to state, three in the 400, two in the 200 and one in the 100. She qualified in those three events the past three years.
