A trio of teams from St. Catherine’s High School made some noise last week in WIAA tournament action.
We start with the boys golf team, which finished third in Division 3 at the WIAA State Tournament June 10. Led by senior Adam Gabbey’s 10th-place finish with a two-round total of 156, the Angels shot 651, one stroke behind second-place Osseo-Fairchild. The other members of the team were sophomore Ryan Busey (164), senior Dino Dominici (166), freshman Jack O’Brien (167) and junior Troy Dorlack (169).

The baseball team, despite coming into the WIAA Division 3 playoffs with a losing record, won both games at the sectional tournament June 10 at Ripon to make its second state appearance in the last three years. The Angels (13-15) beat Markesan 2-1 in the semifinal and Gibraltar/Washington Island 3-2 in the title game. All four playoff victories for St. Catherine’s were by one run.
The soccer team capped the school’s amazing week by winning both Division 4 sectional matches to earn a trip to state for the first time since 2007. The Angels (21-1-2), ranked No. 1 in Division 4 in the final Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association poll, beat Kenosha Christian Life 4-0 last Thursday in a sectional semifinal and beat Prairie 2-1 Saturday in a sectional final at Carthage College in Kenosha.
