Sadie Gilbert didn’t stop with a hat trick Wednesday afternoon.

The junior scored four of St. Catherine’s nine goals in its 9-1 rout of Whitefish Bay Dominican Wednesday in a Metro Classic Conference game at the SCORe Soccer Complex in Caledonia.

Gilbert had an unassisted goal in the 20th minute that broke a 1-1 tie. She scored three times in the second half, receiving assists from freshman Molly O’Regan and senior Molly O’Brien.

O’Brien didn’t score, but did record four assists. O’Regan finished with two assists and two goals.

Sophomore Anna Mae Dixon also scored twice, assisted by O’Regan in the third minute and O’Brien in the 30th.

Senior Allison Murray added one goal for the Angels (2-0 overall, 1-0 in the MCC).

Dominican is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in MCC.

PRAIRIE 1, KENOSHA ST. JOSEPH 0: One goal made all the difference for the Hawks in this Metro Classic Conference matchup at Anderson Park in Kenosha.

In the 83rd minute, Kate McPhee — five minutes after she’d narrowly missed a goal of her own — played a ball into the box that Glori Campos scored.

Campos was “in the right place at the right time,” Prairie coach Corey Oakland said. “It was a fantastic game, especially this early in the season ... We made light years (worth of) leaps ahead in this game.”

Quinn Shannon played the entire game in net for Prairie, making 10 saves for her first shutout of the season.

Prairie improved to 1-1 overall and in the MCC this season.

All-Racine County Boys Basketball: Butler named Player of the Year

SAINT THOMAS MORE 5, RACINE LUTHERAN 0: Lexi Thomas had five saves for the Crusaders in their season-opening loss to Saint Thomas More in a Metro Classic Conference game at Milwaukee.

“They played all right for their first time out,” Lutheran coach Kevin McNamara said. “Thomas More has a great program.”

Boys tennis

ST. CATHERINE’S-LUTHERAN 7, PARK 0: No. 1 Ethan Woitach of St. Catherine’s has started his sophomore season with back-to-back wins. He defeated Park’s Jared Christensen 6-0, 6-1 in this nonconference match at Lockwood Park.

“The highlight right now is Ethan Woitach,” said St. Catherine’s coach David Mooney. “He is 2-0 so far this season and looks very promising.”

No. 2 Sam French followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ben Granger.

No. 3 Dan Weir came back in a 10-5 tiebreaker against Dan Ruiz after splitting the first two sets 6-4, 4-6.

Caleb Chernowski finished out the sweep in the No. 4 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0.

In the doubles matches, Connor Petricek and Zack Connor defeated Park’s Dan Wan Rosli and Jacob Wilson 6-1, 6-1.

  • St. Catherine’s lost its season opener 6-1 against Saint Thomas More on Tuesday at Lockwood Park.

Ethan Woitach won his match on the No. 1 court by a score of 6-0, 6-2.

Sam French nearly pulled out second point for St. Catherine’s. He was swept 6-0 in the first set, came back 6-2 in the second, but fell 6-2 in the third.

Softball

CATHOLIC CENTRAL 12, KENOSHA ST. JOSEPH 2: All but two of the Lady Toppers’ hitters recorded an RBI in their 10-run victory over the Lancers in a Metro Classic Conference game at Congress Street Field in Burlington.

Izzy Phillips led Catholic Central by going 4 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Sydnay Robson also reached base four times via two doubles, an error and a walk and finished with four runs and two RBIs.

Christina Paleka went 3 for 4 with three runs. Emily Swanson had two hits in three at-bats with three RBIs. Erin Schween had two RBIs with a run. And Morgan Dietzel added a run, RBI and stolen base. Katie Goethal and Emme Weis both had one RBI.

Paleka started the game on the mound, giving up two runs on one hit with five walks and eight strikeouts in 3⅔ innings. Robson threw the final 1⅓ innings, giving up only one hit and one walk with four strikeouts.

MARTIN LUTHER 27, ST. CATHERINE’S 2: Despite not getting any hits, the Angels scored two runs in their loss at Roosevelt Field in Racine.

The game ended after three innings via mercy rule.

Scoring the runs for St. Catherine’s (0-4) were Leah Topp and Jena Perez.

Baseball

WILMOT 8, WATERFORD 0: Waterford only managed to get on base five times through two walks and three hits in this Southern Lakes Conference game at Wilmot.

Two of those hits came from leadoff hitter junior Kyle Huckstorf. The third was contributed by Patrick Goldammer.

Waterford (2-1) used three pitchers. Carson Barwick (0-1) started, giving up four runs (two earned) in three innings on three hits with three walks.

MARTIN LUTHER 9, ST. CATHERINE’S 3: The Angels gave up nine runs, eight of them earned, in the first inning and weren’t able to mount a comeback, despite shutting out Martin Luther (2-0) in the final six innings in this Metro Classic Conference game at Horlick Field.

“One bad inning...” said St. Catherine’s coach Paul Pulera said, whose team is 0-3

Zach Kaisler started and gave up 12 hits in 5⅓ innings. He struck out eight and walked one. Anthony Schiro came in for relief, throwing 1.2 innings with two hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

Kaisler scored a run, along with Ian Rognerud and Matt Clope.

Schiro had a hit, as did Orlando Mancayo, Noah Rogers and Tony Ortiz.

“As a coach, I know we’re competitive, we just need to prove it,” Pulera said. “The wins will come.”

Boys golf

CATHOLIC CENTRAL INVITATIONAL: After placing second in its season-opening mini-meet Tuesday, Racine Lutheran won a par-3 only meet at Hawk’s View Golf Course in Lake Geneva.

Brent Ogden of Lutheran tied Grant Winiger of St. Catherine’s for the tournament’s lowest score. They each shot 2 over, finishing with a 29.

Lutheran’s total score was 129. Scooter Molbeck shot a 35, David Voss finished with 34 and Jack Manna was two shots behind the leaders with a 31.
