Kathleen Straube and Kourtney Mulhollon each placed in the top five in leading Catholic Central to a second-place finish in the Metro Classic Conference girls cross country meet Saturday at Lincoln Park in Kenosha.
Straube finished fourth at 16 minutes, 26 seconds, while Mulhollon was a fraction behind at 16:26 to finish fifth. They helped Catholic Central total 42 points in the meet, which was won by Kenosha St. Joseph with 23. The Prairie School was third with 83 points, while St. Catherine’s had an incomplete team.
Charles Lamberton’s fifth-place showing helped The Prairie School finish second in the boys meet. Prairie had 68 points. Kenosha St. Joseph was first 42. Catholic Central was third with 69, and St. Catherine’s was fourth with 95.
Catholic Central had three other girls in the top 18. Cassie Reesman was 11th at 17:05, Jennifer Smith was 13th at 17:15 and Patty Kempken was 18th at 17:49.
Prairie’s top runner was Abby Polzin, who placed 12th at 17:07. Prairie’s Mia Guion was 16th at 17:32, with teammate Kara Quinette finishing 17th at 17:37.
St. Catherine’s Lauren Recupero was 36th at 20:41.
While Lamberton turned in Prairie’s best finish, two other Hawks finished in the top 11. Ryne Walley was ninth at 18:58 and Alex Chay was 11th at 19:15.
Catholic Central’s Sam Joski had the best time among Racine County entrants. Joski was timed at 18:18, good for third place. St. Joseph’s Kevin Ryan was first at 16:20, with teammate Nicolas Padilla second at 18:06.
Catholic Central’s Mitch Vos was 15th at 19,19, with teammates Jake Laforest (19:20), Gavin Foote (19:20) and Gavin Clayton (19:28) in the next three spots.
Max McCarthy recorded St. Catherine’s best time, crossing the line at 19:05 for 10th place. St. Catherine’s Carter Rushlow was 12th at 19:15.
