The Burlington High School boys golf team peaked at the perfect time Thursday.

Burlington got impressive showings from all four of its scorers in winning the Racine County Invitational at Meadowbrook Country Club.

Burlington, led by Justin Meseberg’s 79, had a 320 total. Case, led by medalist Ricky Kuiper, was second, 12 strokes behind Burlington.

Waterford and St. Catherine’s each had 337s, while Horlick was fifth at 346. Prairie was sixth at 347, followed by Union Grove at 381, Racine

Lutheran at 399 and Catholic Central at 421. Park had an incomplete team with three golfers.

“I am proud of the consistency and concentration the guys demonstrated today,” Burlington coach Bill Berkholtz said. “It was truly a team effort with all five guys grinding it out.”

While Meseberg’s 79 tied him for fourth place overall, three of his teammates were right behind. Brian Dankle and Josh Ketterhagen each shot an 80, tying them for eighth place overall, while Ben Geiger fired an 81 to finish 10th.

“A 79, two 80s and an 81 are very good scores in the cool wind and rain,” Berkholtz said. “Our kids met the potential they have had all year.”

Kuiper earned medalist honor by defeating teammate Sam Glennon in a three-hole playoff after each fired a 77.

Case coach Jerry Kupper said Kuiper chipped in from 15 feet on No. 18.

“He started out a little slow; he had a 40 on the front nine,” Kupper said. “It was the worst conditions: water, cold wind. It was bad.

“I talked to him at the turn and said, ‘Hey, everybody’s shooting kind of high today.’ And then he came back with a 37 on the back nine.”

On Glennon’s performance, Kupper said, “He played very well. He was just very consistent and he hit the ball pretty far off the tee.”

Waterford’s Zack Nash shot a 78 to finish third, while Prairie’s Michael O’Brien and Case’s Eric Van Tubbergen tied Meseberg for fourth with a 79.

Horlick’s Will Buhler tied Dankle and Ketterhagen for eighth with an 80.

Adam Gabbey led St. Catherine’s with an 83, while Austin Molnar-Brack led Racine Lutheran with an 89.

Union Grove’s top performer was Sam Maier, who had a 92. Jeff Stemper fired an 87 to lead Catholic Central, and Chris Kozenski shot a 95 to top Park players.
