Burlington resident Paul Zarek wasn’t able to upset Menasha’s Robert Gregorski, the eventual tournament champion, in their semifinal showdown Wednesday at the Wisconsin State Golf Association’s Senior Match Play Championship at the River Club of Mequon.
Gregorski won three of the first four holes before Zarek trimmed the lead to two with a par on the 374-yard seventh hole. That would be Zarek’s only win on the day. The match ended 5 and 4 in Gregorski’s favor.
Gregorski defeated Rocky Sperka of New Berlin 7 and 5 in the final.
Earlier this year, Zarek placed second in the Badgerland Invitational at Oneida Golf & Country Club, and tied for 45th in the WPLA Ray Fischer Amateur Championship at Janesville Riverside Golf Club.
