Fox River Middle School and Waterford Graded School District staff members break ground on the middle school's referendum-funded expansion on Monday afternoon. The $24.9 million referendum, passed last year, is planned to greatly expand the school, gut the insides and add a new common area, eighth-grade wing, music wing and art wing. The school, located at 921 W. Main St., Waterford, also will hold more students by adding sixth-grade classes. Built for $1 million in 1968, the school has not received much work since its opening. "Gone will be the days of rain falling in our main hallway or bees infesting our classrooms," said Principal Jason Werchowski, second from left. Burlington-based Scherrer Construction is projecting construction to be finished for the start of the 2020-21 school year. Preliminary work is to begin in early June.
