As a Park alum (Class of '05), I am ecstatic to see the Panthers' success on the basketball court over these last few years, and confident that one day they will get back to State. Unfortunately, during this same era there is one glaring problem which is impossible for a fan like me to ignore; their uniforms. Specifically, there are two problems with the Panthers' boys' basketball current uniforms.
1. The jerseys saying "Racine Park" sounds quite condescending, as if we somehow don't know what our own city's name is. I understand out-of-town newspapers using it in game recaps to give context, but officially we are Park, the Park Panthers (Washington Park if you wish to be formal).
2. There is not a trace of orange anywhere on the uniforms. Every Racine school has white in their color scheme, but no other high school in Racine has blue or orange. Besides, the second line of our school song isn't "Hail thy white and blue."
Bottom line: our boys' basketball team has been making us swell with that Panther pride. I just hope that whoever is in charge of designing the uniforms makes the aforementioned changes so that they will evoke the Park Panther brand to its fullness as they continue to achieve greatness on the court.
