I was born in the City of Racine 82 years ago. I have owned hundreds of separate parcels of real estate here for more than 50 years. Obviously, I pay a lot of real estate taxes. I have watched the steady decline of this community ever since the late Mayor Huck left office all too long ago.
At the same time, our city governance continues to gamble with pie-in-the-sky prospects, most recently Machinery Row and the arena. They threaten our bankruptcy like big city Chicago faces 70 miles to the south.
If acting Mayor Wiser really thinks the arena is a viable proposition, despite all the objections to it now appearing in The Journal Times online, why doesn't he step up and submit it to referendum immediately?
