We are beyond proud that an international company of Foxconn’s magnitude has decided to call Racine County home. Foxconn’s $10 billion investment to create North America’s first state-of-the-art advanced display manufacturing campus in Mount Pleasant will be transformational. It will not only change our local economic landscape, but its impact will be felt throughout the state and nation. Wisconsin and Racine County will be established as the electronics manufacturing capital of North America.
The billions of dollars in new investment in our community will begin over the course of the anticipated four-year construction period. Then, once fully operational, the Foxconn facility is expected to create billions of dollars in additional Racine County Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
It will transform our region, creating thousands of new jobs in Racine County. New jobs mean new Racine County residents – more people shopping at our stores, eating at our restaurants and enjoying our attractions. It also means new housing options, new stores and new restaurants. And that means even more jobs.
But this investment, and opportunity, is about more than just Foxconn. We believe this is just the beginning. With Foxconn, we have established the foundation for unparalleled economic development, job growth and enhanced quality of life. We’re confident other businesses will take notice and follow suit.
The result will be a domino effect of development, additional investment and population increases. It will spill into the housing market and health care systems, reshape our school districts and spur infrastructure improvements. Our municipalities will work together at an even higher level.
Now is the time to invest in ourselves and redefine Racine County. We want to maximize this opportunity and build on our assets, including our location and top-notch workforce.
The Village of Mount Pleasant and Racine County have been hard at work crafting a well thought-out, careful and conservative local package for Foxconn. The plan makes Racine County highly desirable and, just as importantly, maintains our commitment to the taxpayers of our great county. Namely, it does not institute a sales tax and does not raise property taxes.
We are starting a dialogue around how to best maximize Foxconn’s investment while meeting the needs of our evolving community and we want you to be a part of it. We have held two information sessions already and another will be held Oct. 24 in Burlington, where you can learn more about the project and share your feedback.
We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to grow our community and position Racine County as the place to do business. Together, we will move forward and continue to make Racine County an even greater place to live, work, and play.
