DELAVAN - The Walworth County district attorney has confirmed the identity of woman whose disappearance more than 30 years ago recently became the subject of a police investigation.

District Attorney Phil Koss said Monday that Delavan police are investigating the disappearance of Ruth Egnoski. Police refused last week to identify the woman.

Police began to dig in the backyard of a home last week as part of the investigation. Officers found a crawl space under the home, but it was empty, Koss said.

Police still are investigating.

Judith Saucerman of Wheaton, Ill., told The Janesville Gazette that Egnoski, her niece, was about 18 when she disappeared in 1966.

Police were notified when Egnoski was originally reported missing but did not investigate. Officers recently started investigating when several people came forward and said they should, police said.
