I read with interest your Dec. 9 editorial entitled "Recount Not Worth The Expense."
While we may discuss the value of the recount, it is important to note that it was funded privately and not by the taxpayers. The cost of the recount was borne by individual donations and not by our government.
For many of us, we have choices about spending our money. We may choose to spend it on tickets to see the Packers or Brewers. We may go to a concert or the casino. We may purchase designer clothing or cigarettes or whiskey. We might support Segue, HALO or the Health Care Network.
For everyone of us who chooses one thing, there is another person who considers that expenditure "foolish." Those in our community who chose to donate to the recall were investing in reestablishing the integrity of our election system in the midst of charges of fraud and illegal voting. You are entitled to think it "wasteful." But it would be more responsible to make certain that your readers understood that it was a personal choice, not a government one.
