Our elected officials are sworn to represent us. I wanted to know whether Sen. Van Wanggaard (R-Racine) constituents were asking for the destruction of the Government Accountability Board.
On Oct. 27, I sent an open records request to Sen. Wanggaard. I asked for correspondence between Oct. 12-19 that included any reference to the GAB. Here are the results — 48 constituents opposed destroying the GAB; nine supported it. In addition, 28 constituents opposed degrading our campaign finance laws; zero supported it.
Wanggaard voted to destroy the GAB and degrade our campaign finance laws. He ignored the majority of constituents who took the time to contact him during this one week. To whom was he listening?

American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) promulgates legislation written by corporations, hands it to member legislators and directs them to get it passed. Sen. Wanggaard served on two ALEC Task Forces and paid his $100 membership fees with your tax money.
Who does Sen. Wanggaard represent? Who does he listen to? Evidence shows that he does not listen to the people who vote in his district.
