At the April 24 Mount Pleasant Village Board meeting, newly-elected President David DeGroot presented John Kis to fill his vacant trustee seat no. 5. This highly qualified individual, who has been serving on the Village Plan Commission, was voted down in a 3-3 tie.
The rationale presented by Trustees Gary Feest, Ken Otwaska and Jon Hansen stated that they were doing Kis a favor, so he wouldn't have a potential conflict of interest because he is a vice president at Tri City National band. Kis addressed their concerns and indicated that he would recuse himself should any such situation arise.
It should be noted that the Racine County Economic Development Corporation just presented Kis with this year's Sam Johnson Volunteer of the Year award, which recognizes volunteers that have made a significant impact in Racine County. Kis is a highly qualified man and pillar in our community. He also stated that he could be a peacemaker and would try to bring the divided board back together again, so the village could move forward.

Mount Pleasant taxpayers deserve the person person possible to represent them on the board to keep this village strong and moving forward. Kis is willingand able to provide this service and should be reconsidered to fill this trustee position. It will only take one vote from Trustees Feest, Otwaska or Hansen to endorse Kis and get the newly elected board headed in a positive direction for all the citizens of Mount Pleasant.
