No more taxes for schools!! none...school must be private!! they have public ones that is...a socialist breeding/training ground...a feed me, medicate me find me a shrink schooling system!!
Here’s what I think is going on behind the scenes. There’s been a glaring lack of communication from RUSD to the public. I think RUSD has been told that if they decide to go back to in-person, too many teachers will not show up for work and will protest. I do think RUSD administration wants to avoid this optic. They’re caught between a rock and a hard place. I also know of “conservative” substitute teachers on social media who are hypocritically demanding that teachers go back to school but they themselves will not go back as subs because they’re in a higher risk group.
Strong unions have been shown to influence which Wisconsin districts have opened, along with areas that voted with liberals. There is a Spring 2021 election coming up for Racine Unified in April. You can't pull up the individuals on the ballet yet, but it shouldn't be too long. You can register to vote absentee which will make it really easy, and at that point think about voting out school board members who mostly side with the REA's requests. The board elects the superintendent, and if they're not working to get schools opened here, you can change it by voting. Get friends, and family to sign up for absentee voting in the Spring election in April.
What's so difficult about it? Give parents a choice, either in-person or virtual learning. It's working fine in KUSD. It helps parents, students, and staff feel empowered and that they control their own outcomes and assume the risk. RUSD is too stupid and controlling to have figured that out yet.
Nothing like the hypocrisy of RUSD and Racine leadership. In closing down businesses they say they are "following the science" but when the science says kids should be in school now it's a tough decision. Unbelievable.
Keep the students and teachers safe first and foremost! Kids are more resilient than most realize. My grandkids (10 in RUSD) all seem to be doing well. This virus is revealing so many long term effects that doctors are unsure of, why saddle a generation with life long conditions we are only beginning to understand.
and the parents are paying full taxes and missing work in a lot of cases. Kids will stay home if you let them, but they aren’t learning at the proper pace and in the proper setting. There is a initiative to pay parents back some money if they choose to not reopen, as they should. UG elementary school has committed to providing in school learning since day one. Anything else is BS!
There are no proven long term effects reported in any children due to COVID, get your facts right. The long term effects of kids not going to school are well known and documented for years. So 95% of us including your grandkids have to suffer because your afraid of getting COVID? I assume you are at least over 50 if you have grandkids, so you are in the most vulnerable demographic, and should STAY HOME! You're probably retired anyway. Think about if you were in your working years, raising kids during this. People like you are making policies for us that have completely different situations then we do. I wish I was retired and had nothing better to do than complain.
With vaccines potentially weeks away for teachers, instead of months, what would be the point of rushing back to the classrooms now? Get the teachers vaccinated twice, then start the clock on getting students back in the classrooms. If you go back now, the entire reason for keeping students and teachers out of the classroom for the last 10 months would be wasted. If parents want to continue keeping their kids home until they are vaccinated, let them.
Why is it when the doctors/experts tell us kids need to be back in school Unified doesn’t listen? But they clearly listened when they closed! It’s as simple as providing both options as many school districts have. You can stay virtual thru a third party provider or go back. It’s not rocket science! They simply want their paycheck without putting up with the students!
I’m afraid this does describe many of our teachers. Yes we have many e cells that teachers who go above and beyond (and don’t post on social media about how they’re working “overtime” while the rest of us salaried workers take it as a given) but just like any profession there are too many who do the bare minimum.
TIME TO END ALL BRICK N MORTAR SCHOOLS!! Teachers are non essential... nothing but brainwashing anyway!! where is the loser do nothing superintendent!! he should be fired..
Try A/B days. There is a way to bring back students and make the schools safe. It just requires less students in person at one time. Also, the teachers should work from the school virtual or not as there are less distractions and more accountability

Open schools, those teachers that don't show up to teach can have their pay withheld until they do their job. No back pay will be made up.
RUSD taxes are a rip off !!!!!! Foolish waste of $$$

This is true. I’m a lifelong liberal but RUSD has lost me.

It is an easy decision, the teachers union will tell them what to do. And you can bet it won't be "for the kids". SMH
You have that right.
Kids belong in school. The teachers union is too strong that's the problem.

Teachers get back into the classrooms - remember "it's all about the kids." Not when it just suits you. They are failing!
Stay Virtual until All School Staff has a Chance to be Vaccinated.
And if they don't take the "chance" of receiving the vaccine, then what?
Exactly. What percent of teachers will refuse vaccination.
No open schools until teachers and their families have been vaccinated.

RUSD’s Gallien said two days ago at the school board meeting they will NOT do a hybrid schedule. All students will either be virtual or in-person.
Bring them back to healthy, safe conditions. More space and more instructors are needed. This is common sense.
