RACINE — People using the Passport phone app to pay for parking at spaces with meters in Racine are eligible to receive up to $2.80 in free parking.
Each Saturday in December local businesses will provide a payment code that shoppers and diners can use in lieu of the regular payment.
The merchant validation will activate even if the customer has already begun a parking session. The $2.80 fee will buy a single parking session for up to four hours of parking in a two-hour spot.
This holiday parking promotion applies to all metered spaces in Downtown, Uptown, and West Racine on streets, lots, and in the McMynn parking ramp on Main and Seventh streets.
The city announced the new app in September. PassportParking, is available for free from the iPhone App Store or from Google Play, and allows shoppers and patrons to add time to their meter without an extra trip back to their cars.
