Public asked to help design Sturtevant skate park

STURTEVANT — The first public planning session for a future skate park in Sturtevant is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at the Village Hall, 2801 89th St.

The Village Board’s designated site for a community skate park is East Park, at 87th Street and Corliss Avenue.

The project is now in the planning stage, and Monday is scheduled to be the first design meeting, a session led by the President of American Ramp Co.

He is expected to gather all the information needed to put together an aerial video of the park for Sturtevant, board Trustee Carrie Harbach said.

“We would like beginner to professional skaters to attend the meeting,” she said. “We need everyone’s input.”

The tentative budget is about $200,000, which Harbach said is “a bit conservative for this type of project.” Consequently, donations are welcome, and the village plans to pursue grants as soon as there is a design and timeline in place.

“We will welcome local contractors to place bids when we move toward the construction phase of the project,” Harbach said.

Chick-fil-A is sponsoring Monday’s meeting and is expected to provide something to eat for those who attend.

“I am excited that the Parks Committee is moving forward with this project with the Board’s support,” Harbach said.

She hopes ground can be broken for the project in early summer.
