RACINE COUNTY — Michaels Arts and Crafts and two other Racine area retail leases were announced Thursday by Mid-America Real Estate–Wisconsin.

Michaels, now at 5543 Durand Ave., will move into part of the former Best Buy store at 2630 S. Green Bay Road. Mid-America said the lease has been signed for 21,300 square feet there.

The building’s owners, CSM Investors of Minneapolis, have said Michaels will share the space with Office Depot, now at 5201 Washington Ave., under a pending deal. The facade would be altered to give each retailer its own entrance.

Best Buy vacated its former, larger store after Circuit City went bankrupt, and took over that adjacent space at 2710 S. Green Bay Road.

Mid-America also announced Aspen Dental signed a lease for about 3,300 square feet at the future development at the northwest corner of highways 31 and 11. This spring the Village of Mount Pleasant is scheduled to move out of its municipal complex there and into the new $10.5 million village complex at the north end of 90th Street near West Lawn Cemetery.

After demolition of the old village buildings, a new Pick ’N Save store will be built on the site to replace the one at 2406 S. Green Bay Road.

Aspen Dental will become one of four expected tenants in a new retail strip center there. Another space has been leased to Mattress Firm for its second Racine area store. And U.S. Cellular has taken another space, with one vacancy remaining.

In another lease announcement, Mid-America said Save On Cigarettes leased 1,246 square feet at Racine Centre, 5201 Washington Ave.
