MADISON — A statewide youth garage band competition called Rockonsin will feature seventh- through 12th-grade bands of all musical genres. Rockonsin state finals conducted at Summerfest will invite 12 statewide Wisconsin high or middle school garage bands to perform and compete at summerfest on the Johnson Controls Stage June 29-30.
All seventh- and eighth-grade garage bands can now join high school bands in applying for the competition; or a band can be a combination of any students in seventh to 12th grades. The band must be formed outside the school music program. Students must be enrolled in a Wisconsin public or private school or virtual, charter or home school. Musicians applying do not have to be enrolled in a traditional school music program, and the band must be comprised of two or more musicians, and one member must be a vocalist.
There is no registration fee. The band application period will close on April 30. Each band will be asked to submit one video of the band performing one cover or original song and submitting a link to that video, in addition to filling out the band application online by going to www.ROCKONSIN.org. Video close enough to see the band members actually playing or singing, and include the songwriting credit and lyrics. Bands will be notified by May 15 if they have been selected to perform at Summerfest.
