LAKE GENEVA — Firefighters rescued a dog from a burning van Wednesday afternoon.
Lake Geneva firefighters were dispatched at 12:56 p.m. for a report of a car fire in the parking lot the Walmart, 201 N. Edwards Blvd., just west of Highway 12 and south of Highway 50.
According to Fire Department Capt. Mark Moller-Gunderson, arriving crews found a well involved fire engulfing two vehicles. Firefighters used foam and dry chemicals extinguishers to fight the fire, which spread to three adjoining cars, Moller-Gunderson said.
During the operation, firefighters made entry into a burning van and rescued a dog that was trapped. Fire crews resuscitated the dog and transported it to the Lake Geneva Animal Hospital for treatment. Moller-Gunderson said area veterinarians Scot and Mona Hodkiewicz are well known for their care of animals in crisis.
No other injuries reported.
“This was a serious and stubborn fire,” Fire Chief John Peters said. “Our crews worked hard to prevent further loss. We’re glad the dog was rescued and that no one was injured.”
Lake Geneva police and fire officials said the cause and origin of the fire is under investigation but police said criminal activity was not suspected.
