Joachim Dressler reportedly serviced the elevator in a Milwaukee building occupied by a man suspected of killing and dismembering as many as 17 men.
But authorities and Dressler's attorney on Friday discounted rumors that Dressler and the Milwaukee murder suspect, 31-year-old Jeffrey L. Dahmer, were acquainted.
Dressler's attorney, James Mathie of Milwaukee, reacted angrily when he was asked about the possibility of a connection between Dahmer and Dressler.
"There is no connection that I know of between these two cases," Mathie said. "I don't want any media publicity on this hoax."
Racine County Sheriff's Lt. James Ivanoski said Milwaukee authorities haven't asked local investigators about the possibility of a link between Dahmer and Dressler, 43, formerly of 11739 5 Mile Road in Raymond.
"I don't think there's any basis for it," according to Ivanoski. He said the accusations against Dahmer and Dressler are not as similar as suggested in some media reports.
Ivanoski, however, said Dressler probably had been in Dahmer's apartment building.
"It is my understanding that Dressler worked on the elevator and serviced the elevator where Dahmer lived," Ivanoski said.
