MOUNT PLEASANT — The Mount Pleasant Police Department is urging residents to be cautious after a suspect recently posed as a Foxconn employee to gain entrance to a Mount Pleasant home to allow accomplices to steal from the residence.
On Friday, the Racine County Communication Center received a call from a resident in the 9100 block of County Line Road (Highway KR) stating that their house had been burglarized, according to a Mount Pleasant Police Department news release.
An officer responded to the residence and learned that at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, a male suspect came to the house stating he was a contractor working for Foxconn. The suspect claimed he had hit a water pipe.
The suspect told the homeowner he needed to check the water lines in her home, so she allowed the suspect and another male to enter the home.
According to the release, the two suspects distracted the homeowners, and while doing so, two other men entered the residence. The homeowners later discovered their bedroom had been gone through and money and jewelry had been taken, police said.
The suspects left in a cream-colored SUV.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department is warning citizens about an increase in this type of crime in the area. Suspects will often pretend to be some type of a utility worker to gain entry into a house or have the homeowner come outside. As the suspect distracts the homeowner, others enter the home and take money and small items of value.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department asks residents to be vigilant and not let anyone into their residence they do not know, the release stated. The department urges residents to contact police immediately if any suspicious activity like this occurs.
