MOUNT PLEASANT — A Mount Pleasant teen was charged after reportedly meeting up with someone at a Walmart to sell a phone and then stealing $300 from the man.

Billy R. Summers Jr., 17, of the 500 block of South Green Bay Road has been charged with one count of misdemeanor theft and four counts of bail jumping.

According to his criminal complaint:

On Tuesday, police were called to the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 5625 Washington Ave. for a report of a theft. The victim, who was with his 9-year-old son, said he met Summers at the store to buy an iPhone X, which he saw posted on Facebook Marketplace.

They met inside the store, but after the victim gave Summers $300, Summers asked for the phone back and then fled with both the money and the phone. Video surveillance from the store confirmed the story and showed a male resembling Summers fleeing.

When police confronted Summers at his home with images from the surveillance video, Summers confirmed the image was of himself.

Summers was being held in the Racine County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond as of Wednesday afternoon. His preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 14.
