MOUNT PLEASANT — A traffic stop turned into a manhunt that resulted in the recovery of 2 pounds of marijuana.

According to a news release from the Mount Pleasant Police Department, at 11 p.m. on Friday an officer stopped a vehicle going southbound on S. Green Bay Road near Margery Drive for a traffic violation.

The driver fled on foot, running northwest toward the nearby apartments, carrying a large plastic grocery bag. The officer and a witness described him as a black male wearing a white T-shirt, jacket and blue jeans.

Mount Pleasant Police used their K-9 to track the suspect. The dog located the grocery bag, which had been discarded at the corner of a building. Inside the bag was 2 pounds of a substance that tests confirmed was marijuana.

The incident is still under investigation.
