RACINE - A Racine man charged with his fifth offense of drunken driving reportedly led police to

him with a trail of fluid leaking from his truck.

Earl Knuckles, 62, of the 1600 block of Charles Street, has been charged with fifth offense operating while intoxicated.

According to the complaint, just after midnight on March 7, police found fresh tire marks on a cement median on Spring Street that were followed by the start of a heavy fluid trail. An officer followed the trail eastbound on Spring Street to Sunnyslope Drive.

At Sunnyslope Drive, police discovered a silver Chevy with a damaged front tire that was leaking fluid.

The officer spoke to the driver of a car, which was also on the scene with the damaged truck. The driver told police his uncle, who was sitting in his car, was the driver of the truck.

When the officer approached the man, later identified as Knuckles, he smelled intoxicants, reports said. Knuckles allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.

The complaint says Knuckles has four previous OWI convictions from Kentucky and Indiana.

Knuckles was given a $2,000 signature bond. He had his initial

appearance in court on Wednesday.
