EAST TROY - History will be illuminated Wednesday with the official lighting of new 1910-replica lights on the village square.
The new lights are part of the third phase of a $150,000 Square Renovation Project that was begun in 1991.
The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a concert from the newly-formed East Troy Alumni /Community Band.
During intermission, village of East Troy officials and major donors to the project will participate in a lighting ceremony. Village president Jim Mitchell and Park and Recreation chairman Linnea Loesch will be joined by Roger Stuckmann, president of the State Bank of East Troy and Ralph Dach, site manager for Browning-Ferris Industries, owner of Troy Area Landfill. The bank and landfill each donated $25,000 toward the project.
Organizers of the event hope that the installation of the lights will assist in fund-raising efforts to complete the Square Renovation Project during the next two years.
If enough money can be raised, plans call for the concrete work to be completed in 1994, including replacing the sidewalks and adding a carriage walk, zip strip, a decorative circle around the bandstand, as well as wrought iron benches and adding and replacing trees. In 1995, the rest rooms in the bandstand are scheduled to be updated.
