Second in field show at Cherry Festival
Racine's Lighthouse Brigade Marching Band won first place in the National Cherry Festival Parade competition last week with a score of 83.9.
The other top three finishers were Belding (Mich.) High School Band with a score of 63.85 and the South St. Paul (Minn.) High School Band with a score of 75.9.
The Brigade finished in third place in concert competition. The Warren (Ohio) Junior Military Band won the national championship while Kenosha Band of the Black Watch finished second.
In the field show competition, the Brigade placed second out of eight bands competing. It finished second in the caption awards for music, marching and percussion, according to Doug Johnson, Brigade director.
Scores for the National Championship field show: First place, Warren, 84.5 points; second, Lighthouse Brigade, 78.5; third, Dundee (Ill.) Imperial Scots, 76.1; fourth, South St. Paul, 66.2; fifth, Chesterton (Ind.) Trojan Guard, 58.90; sixth, Saskatoon (Saskatchewon) Lions, 53.25; seventh, Belding, 53.20; and eighth, Lake Band of Milwaukee, 45.40.
