SOMERS — The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Foreign Film Series continues with the 2016 German, Austrian and Romanian film, “Toni Erdmann,” with six showings Thursday through Sunday, April 26-29, in the UW-Parkside Student Cinema, 900 Wood Road.
In this comedy, a young workaholic professional German woman, Inès, is working for a multi-national company in Bucharest when her shaggy, aging father Winfried, a relentless practical joker, comes to visit for the weekend. After an awkward couple of days together, Winfried refuses to go home. He pops up everywhere that Inés goes, invading her life on the local business and diplomatic scene, wearing a wig and pretending to be a life coach called Toni Erdmann. The way in which Ade tackles her subject is startlingly original, frequently hilarious and surprising at every turn.
Screenings are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 5 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 and 5 p.m. Sunday. Season tickets cost $27, $25 for students and seniors. Season tickets include three free guest passes. Tickets are not sold for individual films. Go to www.uwp.edu/foreignfilms or call 262-595-2307.
