DOVER — A free waterfowl outing will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Eagle Lake C ounty Park, Church Road, west of Highway 75.
The Hoy Audubon Society of Kenosha and Racine Counties is hosting the outing. Newcomers to ornithologists are welcome.
The group will meet at 8:30 a.m. on the north side of the lake at Eagle Lake Park. Attendees should enter from Church Road. Afterward, the group will scope out wetlands for birds west and north of the intersection of highways 11 and 75. Hoy officials recommend checking the organization's website at hoyaudubon.org first, because if the lake is frozen, another destination will probably be selected.
Participants should bring binoculars and a field guide and wear appropriate footwear in case the ground is wet. Advanced birders will be among the group, so questions about birding can be answered quickly. Birds on the 529-acre lake this time of year often include ring-necked duck, lesser and greater scaup, redhead duck, ruddy duck and northern shoveler.
