RACINE — The Democratic Party of Racine County held its annual awards banquet April 22.
The Democrat of the Year award went to Sam Peete. This award recognizes the person who has supported democratic principles, has promoted the Democratic Party of Racine County to the community and beyond, has supported Democratic candidates for elected positions, has participated in related political events in a positive way and who lives by the principles of the organization.
The Phyllis Dresen Award went to Betty Brenneman. This award honors a person who has worked to further democratic principles by his/her efforts in the community, state and/or nation.
Meg Andrietsch, chair, announced the results of a straw poll that was conducted for governor at the banquet. The top four receiving the most votes were Tony Evers, Andy Gronik, Dana Wachs and Kelda Roys.
The Democratic Party of Racine County 2018 Nomination Paper Signing Event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Infusino's Banquet Hall, 3201 Rapids Drive. Democratic candidates for federal, state and local offices have been invited. The public is welcome to attend and meet the candidates.
The DPRC is comprised of members of the Racine County community who believe in the principles of equality, fairness and the freedom to pursue the American dream as they see it.
