“Honoring Our Past” Summer Pops — June 27
Join the Racine Symphony Orchestra as we kick off our 2014-15 season with “Honoring Our Past.” As patriotic music fills Festival Hall, enjoy a pictorial presentation, composed of pictures submitted by veterans and their families, honoring Racine area veterans. Expect a variety of music, including marches, anthems and more. Bob Benson, local actor and singer, returns to sing your favorite patriotic tunes.
We are pleased to offer any active duty or reserve member of our armed forces wearing their uniform or with an ID, complimentary general admission to this concert with our thanks for their service.
Great Orchestral Film Music Festival: Summer Pops — Aug. 22
All that you need to bring is the popcorn. Enjoy the recognizable music from popular films such as John Williams’ theme from “ET,” Kilar’s “The Pianist,” Bernstein’s “West Side Story,” Morricone’s Gabriel’s “Oboe from The Mission” and one of the many Richard Rodgers movie scores. This concert is perfect for date night or a family outing.
For both concerts, doors to Festival Hall, 5 Fifth St., open at 5:30 p.m., with the concert starting at 7 p.m. Available for preorder or purchase at the concert will be food and beverages by O&H catering.
General admission tickets to each pops concert are $23 in advance and $25 at the door. Students under 21 receive free general admission. Table seats can be reserved for $32.50 each or an entire table of 8 or 10 for $260 or $325, respectively, per concert.
“Music for a Summer Evening, Sophisticated Swing” Special Event — July 19
What better way to take pleasure in a beautiful July evening than in a scenic landscape with elegant food and beverages and beautiful music. The RSO invites new and existing symphony supporters to spend the evening with us for “Music for a Summer Evening, Sophisticated Swing” at the Johnson Foundation at Wingspread, 33 E. 4 Mile Road, Wind Point.
Beginning at 5 p.m., we welcome guests to enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres and beverages, followed by tempting desserts, all while mingling with other symphony supporters. We encourage all attendees to take advantage of free tours of the adjacent Wingspread building. Dozens of items will be up for bidding in our silent auction, including jewelry, sporting event tickets, restaurant gift certificates and art. Enjoy music by Eric Carlson on the keyboard and Don Carlson on the saxophone, followed by The James Yorgan Sextet.
Things really heat up during the live auction. Up for bidding will be several coveted items, such as use of a three-bedroom Florida condo for a week, a sunset boat ride on Lake Michigan, tea at the Peninsula Hotel with Maestro Laurino and tickets to a Chicago Bears game at Soldier Field.
Tickets for this special event are $75 each, $50 of which is tax deductable.
Auditions open for string musicians
Applications will be accepted for the first round of auditions for core violin, viola, cello and double bass until July 19. Electronic information must be received by, and all written materials must be postmarked by that date. All applicants will be notified as to whether or not they are selected to continue to the final round, which will take place on Aug. 20.
