FRANKSVILLE — Richard R. Pagels, 84, of Franksville, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Aurora Medical Center-Kenosha.
Born November 22, 1933, in Cudahy, he was the son of Ernest and Margaret (nee Otto) Pagels. He spent his early life in Cudahy where he attended Lake Elementary School and Southside High School. After high school he served his country in the Army from 1957 to 1963, where he was stationed in Germany.
On May 1, 1959, in Ludwigsburg, Germany, he was united in marriage to Gisela Galm. Following marriage they lived in Ossweil, Germany, and West Allis, before moving to Yorkville in 1972. Rich was the owner of Richard Pagels Trucking, Inc. He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, enjoyed playing cribbage, sheepshead, throwing dice and loved playing pranks. He always looked forward to his occasional trips to the casino. He was an avid Packers fan and loved attending games and was fortunate to have been at the famous Ice Bowl game. He also enjoyed gardening and participating in parades where he drove his restored 1947 Sterling Dump Truck. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gisela; children, Gisele (Johnny Powell) Pagels, Andrew (Connie) Pagels and Eric (Amy) Pagels; grandchildren, Bridgett (David) Koval, Brittney (Calvin) Wiener, Zach (Alyssa) Pagels, Olivia, Seth, Thomas, Erica, Lance, Dillon and Chase Pagels. He is also survived by great grandchildren, Hayden, Logan, Emma, Lili, Aubree, Louis, Leon, Teller and Zander and his siblings, Jack (Brian Duginski) Pagels, Margaret (Bruce) Chadwell and Robert Pagels. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Richie and Michael “Soup” Pagels, and brothers, Jerry Pagels and Ernest Pagels.
The family would like to thank the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion, IL, the nursing staff at Aurora Hospital of Kenosha ICU and Opa’s partner, Seth, for all their care and support during this time.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 12:00 noon at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church with Rev. Russ Arnett presiding. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 9th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home and again on Saturday, March 10th at church from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will take place on Monday, March 12th at 12:00 noon at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
