Chatschik Grigorian of 1426 Isabelle Ave. will celebrate his 100th birthday at home with his family.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1918, in Tbilisi in the country of Georgia.
Grigorian came to the United States in 1951 following his service in World War II.
He was married to Vartiny Levonian on Sept. 12, 1953, in St. Mesrob Armenian Church on State Street.
Grigorian was employed as a press operator for Western Publishing Co. Inc. for 29 years, retiring in 1981. Prior to that he worked at Belle City Malleable.
Grigorian is quite the dancer. He and Vartiny would travel throughout southeastern Wisconsin to various dance halls on the weekends. In the summer, you could see him dance at Armenian Picnics. He also enjoys playing cards, backgammon, Armenian brandy and making shish kebob.
Grigorian’s true passion has always been soccer. He played as a youth in Armenia and can frequently be found cheering for his favorite Premiere League and Bundesliga teams.
Grigorian is a member of St. Mesrob Armenian Church were he serves as the Special Godfather to the Cross.
He and his wife have three children: Karin (Werner) Freitag of Guxhagen, Germany, and Avak (Meline) and Ellen of Racine. There are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
