RACINE — Friends of the Racine Public Library will host Christine Brookes, also known as the “Literature Lady,” at 1 p.m. Friday, May 18, at the Racine Public Library, 75 Seventh St.

Brookes will portray Mary Sturges, philanthropist and women's advocate, in "This American Life 1900 — Mary Sturges." In this journey back to the turn of the 20th century, those attending will learn about Sturges' life as one of Chicago’s elite, her memories of the Great Chicago Fire, the World Columbian Exposition and more.

There is no admission fee.
