Regency Mall owners Hull Property Group have announced Thanksgiving weekend and Black Friday hours of operation.

RACINE — The holiday shopping season at Regency Mall will start at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, said the mall’s owners, Hull Property Group.

The schedule at Regency Mall for Thanksgiving Day through Nov. 26:

Thanksgiving — 6 p.m. to midnight.

Nov. 24, Black Friday — 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Nov. 25 — 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Nov. 26 — normal operating hours.

John Mulherin, Hull’s vice president for government relations, said all holiday hours will be communicated to mall tenants via email, voice and text message tools.

Hull Property Group of Augusta, Ga., bought the mall for $9.6 million in October 2016 from CBL & Associates. Hull has a track record of buying what they call “failed” malls — they put Regency in that category — and turning them around with their own reinvestment strategy.

As a necessary prelude to Hull’s upgrades, earlier this year the city formed a tax increment district that includes the mall property, Target, High Ridge Centre, Home Depot and Toys R Us.

Renovations coming

Part of Hull’s mall turnaround strategy is to become more selective with its tenants, getting rid of those it doesn’t want — and all kiosks — as leases end. The entrances will be given more prominence, the exterior will be cleaned, ceiling heights will be raised and vacant storefronts are replaced with solid walls covered in decorative images.

However, Hull is behind its original intended schedule, which was to have the vacancies covered by Thanksgiving. The first round of contractor bids came in too high, Mulherin said. Now it is possible the vacancy cover-ups will occur before Thanksgiving, but it’s also possible it won’t begin until after New Year’s Day.

The “heavy remodeling” will be done during the winter, beginning immediately after the holidays, on Jan. 2 or 3, Mulherin said previously. The exterior work, including cleaning the building and redoing the entrances, will begin when the weather warms next year.
