Road construction

MOUNT PLEASANT — The widening of Braun Road is scheduled to begin late this month, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.

The DOT said it has approved the construction contract for Braun Road from Interstate 94 to Highway H. James Peterson and Sons of Medford was the low bidder on a $16,302,799.12 contract. This work is part of the development of roadways supporting the Foxconn Technology Group project to build Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park.

Of the 12 subcontractors, 11 are Wisconsin-based companies including Caledonia-based Cornerstone Pavers. Contractors bidding for all DOT Foxconn development roads are expected to actively engage the community workforce and businesses by submitting a workforce inclusionary plan to the department.

The project, scheduled to begin in late July, includes constructing Braun Road into a six-lane urban roadway. Braun Road will be closed to motorists until fall 2019. Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and contractor traffic.
