RACINE — Regency Mall welcomes a new junior anchor store on Thursday with the opening of Bob’s Discount Furniture to fill the space last occupied by H.H. Gregg Appliances.
The opening of the new store at Regency’s southwest end coincides with the openings of two other Bob’s Discount Furniture stores Thursday in this part of the state, in Greenfield and Brown Deer.
Manchester, Conn.-based Bob’s Discount Furniture stores carry living room, bedroom, dining room and office furniture and home accents.
Each store also features a cafe with free gourmet coffee, ice cream, cookies and candy.
Bob’s now has 83 stores in 14 states across the East Coast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. According to the company, Bob’s is now the 15th-largest U.S. furniture chain.
“Over the past two years, we’ve expanded our stores in the Midwest, and I’m excited to officially have a presence in the Wisconsin market,” stated Bob Kaufman, co-founder and president emeritus of Bob’s Discount Furniture.
In taking over the former H.H. Gregg space of about 25,000 square feet, Bob’s also expanded somewhat into the mall. The new construction included opening two interior entrances into the mall from the store; H.H. Gregg had no such connections within the mall.
H.H. Gregg closed its Racine store last year, along with several others in the area, after just four years in operation at Regency Mall.
