RACINE -- The Prairie Performing Arts Center Entertainment Series will present the second concert of its 22nd season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday featuring a solo show by Dominic Miller, guitar player for Sting since 1989, former resident of Racine and a Prairie School alum. Doors open at 7 p.m.

To most people, Miller's claim to fame is his position as lead guitar player for Sting. Many in the Racine community, however, regard him as one of their own, as he graduated from the Prairie School in Racine in 1978. Before living in Racine, Miller lived in Argentina and developed a love for South American rhythms; this Latin feel is evident in much of the music Miller includes in solo performances.

Miller studied at the Berklee College of music in Boston, Guildhall School of Music and Drama in England, and with Sebastian Tapajos in Brazil. He began his musical career playing the jazz circuit around Europe for a few years. In 1986 he became involved in session recording. He joined Sting's band in 1989 and has recorded five albums with him. He has also co-written seven songs with Sting, including "Shape of my Heart," and has accompanied Sting on five respective tours.

His other album credits include work with Phil Collins, the Pretenders, Bryan Adams, Peter Gabriel, Rod Stewart, Sinead O'Conner, the Backstreet Boys, Ron Keating, Paul Young, Pavarotti and about 150 other artists. In 1997 Miller was nominated for a Grammy for a collaboration with John McLaughlin.

Miller has released two solo CDs, his first in 1983 garnering him "Guitar Album of the Year" by the Sunday Times. His show on Saturday will consist of music from those releases, classical and Brazilian music, and in general just "guitar mayhem," as he humorously put it during a phone interview.

Tickets for the show are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors 60 and older and students. Tickets are available at all Johnson Bank locations in Racine and Schmitt Music, 1409 Washington Ave. Individual tickets may also be purchased or reserved by calling the Prairie Performing Arts Center box office at 260-3545. Group rates are available. VISA and Mastercard are accepted. The Prairie Performing Arts Center is wheelchair-accessible and is located on the campus of The Prairie School, 4050 Lighthouse Drive.
