Details for Ask the Expert

Ask the expert: Q Every time I flush my toilet, everything seems fine but, I go back in the bathroom later in the day and the bowl is empty of water. I just flush it again and use it when needed. It doesn’t really bother me I’m curious about what the problem could be. A – John H. Hi John, Do you have a dog? I ask because I remember that my brother had a dog and the dog would drink the toilet bowl dry. Then his house would stink from sewer gas. My family thought it was hilarious and no one dared to tell him to close the toilet seat so that the dog would stop drinking out of it! Seriously though, in your case, I think you have something stuck in your toilet. I think it’s partially plugged. The plug is allowing just enough water to pass through that small passage, but the water that escapes past the plug starts a siphon and depletes the bowl of water. I’ve seen this situation more times than not. Give us a call and we can take care of that for you John! – Wes Rosenberg Owner/Master Plumber 262-989-1001 wisconsinmechanicalservice.com
