Albert J. Kopulos

RACINE - Albert J. Kopulos, 88, passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center with his family at his side on Sunday, February 11, 2001. Albert was born in Chicago, Ill. on December 25, 1912, son of the late John and Katina (nee: Katagas) Kopulos. On August 14, 1945, V J Day, Al opened The Corner House Restaurant. He and his family received countless awards recognizing their achievements and high standards for their famed restaurant throughout the years, including being named Restaurateur of the Year in 1984 and 1996. Al was a member of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Southeastern Chapter and the National Restaurant Association. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church Kimissis Theotokou. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean; his daughter, Carol (David) Allan of Tucson, Ariz.; his two sons, John Kopulos of Racine and George Kopulos (Bonnie Mueller) of Racine; his 12 grandchildren, Layne (Pat) Cain of Racine, Michael (Sandy) Grzyb of Flagstaff, Ariz., Greg (Valeria) Kopulos of Delafield, Stephanie (Chad) Schultz of Wauwatosa, Jon Mueller and Katie Mueller, both of Racine, Beth (Richard) Andersen of Lenexa, Kan., Connie (Rick) Tonganoxie, Debbie Sneed, and Elena Henrich, all of Racine; his eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christina Nickolaou of San Francisco, Calif. and Irene (Peter) Ladas of Oak Lawn, Ill.; sister-in-law, Erma Petrakis of Racine; brother-in-law, Larry Chamnes of Garfield, Ark.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of many special friends. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice M. (nee: Anton); his sister, Dolly Boukas; and his brother, James Kopulos. Funeral services will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church Kimissis Theotokou, 1335 South Green Bay Road, on Friday, February 16, 2001, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Emmanuel Lillios and Fr. Peter Papademtriou officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:30 until 8 p.m. with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m. Memorials to the Greek Orthodox Church Kimissis Theotokou Building Fund have been suggested by the family. Ernest R. Koker

RACINE - Ernest R. Koker, 77, passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center on Sunday morning, February 11, 2001. Mr. Koker was born in Kenosha on April 29, 1923, to the late Frank and Myrtle Koker. He was united in marriage to the former Doris Smith in Racine on August 31, 1946, and she preceded him in death on December 29, 1988. Mr. Koker had served in the United States Army in the European Theater during World War II. He had been employed by the Twin Disc Clutch Corporation for over 20 years, retiring in about 1973. He is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Karen Coleman, Kristine Shields, and Kay and Cortez Earl; three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Diane Koker, Fred Koker, and Dennis and Sheryl Koker; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Koker; and two sisters, Erma Petri and Ruth (James) Johnson. Mr. Koker was also preceded in death by his son, Melvin; his daughter, Laurie; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Robert Lundgen; and an infant sister, Mary Koker. Helen E. Gerhardt

UNION GROVE - Helen E. Gerhardt, 91, passed away at the Claridge House Nursing Home in Kenosha on Monday, February 12, 2001. She was born in Chicago, Ill. on June 23, 1909, to Frank and Anna Rybicki. In 1930, in Chicago, Ill., she was united in marriage to George Gerhardt, who passed away in February of 1971. She spent her early life in Chicago, Ill. and in Berwin, Ill. She then moved to Union Grove, where she had been a resident for over 50 years. She was a Secretary for Southern Wisconsin Center in Union Grove. She attended schools at St. Casmirs for eight years and Harrison Tech for four years. She was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Union Grove, where she was also involved with the Women's Club. She is survived by two granddaughters, Paula Jenkins of Schofield and Pamela (Charles) Rhoades of Sturtevant; and five great-grandchildren, Amy Dolan, Tracy Jenkins, Heather Rhoades, Dustin Rhoades, and Krysten Rhoades. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one daughter, Patricia Dolan; and one grandson, Perry Dolan. Funeral services will be held at St. Robert Bellamine Catholic Church on Thursday, February 15, 2001, at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Howard Haase officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery following the service. Mario Noe Rivera Jr.

RACINE - Mr. Mario Noe Rivera Jr., 50, passed away at his home on Monday, February 12, 2001, after a lengthy illness. He was born in McAllen, Texas on September 19, 1950, the son of Mario and Dominga (nee: Zuniga) Rivera and had been a resident of Racine for most of his life. On April 21, 1978, he was married to the former Gloria Guardiola. Mr. Rivera was employed by Saks Incorporated as an Information Technology Manager. He loved technology, both at work and at play, spending many hours with his computer, cameras, and digital video equipment. He was also a fan of many types of music. Mr. Rivera attended St. Patrick Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; son, Mario N. Rivera III; daughter, Bianca Rivera; father, Mario N. Rivera Sr.; sisters, Hilda (Bill) Morris, Maria (Thomas) Hessel, Thelma (Edward) Harper, and Josefa (Richard) Munoz; mother-in-law, Eulogia Guardiola; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roberto 'Amigo' Guardiola, Juanita Guardiola, Guadalupe (Bea) Guardiola, Victor (Jeana) Guardiola, Irene Urick, Corina (John) Visser, and Rosa DeArment; special nephew, Michael Tingwald; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mr. Rivera was preceded in death by his mother, Dominga Rivera; father-in-law, Guadalupe Guardiola; and brother-in-law, Paul DeArment. Family and friends are invited to meet in St. Patrick Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 14, 2001, for the celebration of his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. with Fr. Minas 'Pete' Andekian

RACINE - Minas 'Pete' Andekian, 78, passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center on Saturday, February 10, 2001. A lifelong resident, Mr. Andekian was born in Racine on February 17, 1922, to Arsen and Sophie (nee: Salbashian) Andekian. He had served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and was a member of St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church. His survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Sarkis (Seta) Andekian; his sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Andekian, Takouhi 'Tarquin' Andekian, Gloria Martin, Nazaly (Peter) Chobanian, and Elizabeth Oldham; cousins, Alex and Ara Andekian; nephews, Michael Chobanian and Stephen Andekian; nieces, Margaret Martin, Christian Martin, Rebecca (Michael) Matejewski, Sarah (Tom) Smith, Elizabeth (Brett) Weum, and Melinee Andekian; grandnephew, Michael Matejewski; and grandniece, Rachel Matejewski. Mr. Andekian is also survived by other relatives and many friends. Funeral services for Mr. Andekian will be held at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church on Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Yeprem Kelegian officiating. Interment will take place in Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of service. William J. Schaitel

LAKE GENEVA - William J. Schaitel, 54, of 1154 Mobile Street, Lake Geneva, passed away at his residence on Saturday, February 10, 2001. He was born in Sparta on June 28, 1946, the son of Earl and Ellen (nee: Blume) Schaitel. William was united in marriage to Carol Ann Pfeiffer on August 28, 1971, in Kenosha. He was a graduate of Burlington High School and was a member of the National Guard of Elkhorn. He was a former employee of the Mueller Pipeline Company as an Operating Engineer and had currently been employed at Lyle Jacobs Excavating of Lake Geneva. Surviving are his wife, Carol; two sons, John A. Williamson and Jeffery A. Williamson, both of Racine; three grandchildren, Adam and Samantha Williamson and Heather Tauri; sisters, Mary Ellen Tscheu of Emily, Minn., Madonna (Jay) Wright of Sturtevant, Patricia (Jeff) Robinson, and Sandra (David) Hawes, both of Kenosha; and brothers, Thomas (Diane) Schaitel of Union Grove, Timothy (Lylace) Schaitel, and Michael (Terry) Schaitel, both of Lake Geneva. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Roseanne Schaitel. Funeral services will be held at the Steinke Funeral Home in Lake Geneva on Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Howard C. Haase of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Union Grove officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
