Richard Bong State Recreation Area

The Richard Bong State Recreation Area in Brighton offers the following naturalist programs. A vehicle admission sticker is required for entrance to the park. Programs start promptly. Vehicle admission stickers are $8 daily or $28 annual for state residents; $11 daily or $38 annual for non-residents and $3 daily or $13 annual for resident seniors. Sunday, Sept. 25: Wolf Lake Trail Run/Walk, 10:30 a.m. start. Enjoy a beautiful 4.2 or 7.8 run or a mile walk to raise funds for the Nature Explore Classroom. The event features raffles, homemade bakery, pottery mug awards, chili feed, soda and beer. The fee is $30 per person. Family pricing is available. Saturday, Oct. 1: Watercolor Workshop, 9 a.m. to noon. Join artist Paula Touhey to learn and practice the basics of watercolor painting, using the flowers of fall for inspiration. Best for ages 10 and older. Meet at the Visitor Center. Please call to pre-register 262-878-5601.

Saturday, Oct. 8: Survival 101, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Do you think you could survive outdoors? Join veteran and hunter education instructor Jerry Costabile to discover how to prepare for an outdoor adventure. Pick up some basic survival techniques and learn how to handle the unexpected. Meet at the Visitor Center.
