Sammie Woodward gave the Carthage College women’s basketball team a major boost on Wednesday night.

Woodward came off the bench and scored a game-high 18 points in leading Carthage to a 67-49 victory over UW-Stevens Point in a nonconference game at Tarble Arena on the Carthage campus in Kenosha.

Woodward, a former Prairie School standout, connected on 7 of 12 shots from the field in 23 minutes.

Woodward was one of four player to score in double figures for the Lady Reds (3-1). Autumn Kalis had 15 pionts, while Bailey Gilbert and Rachel Szydlowski had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Morgan Harris came close to recording a double-double for Carthage with 10 rebounds and nine rebounds.

Carthage took control of the game in the second quarter, when it outscored Stevens Point 24-14 in the period to take a 39-24 halftime lead.

Kellan Schmidt had 10 points to lead Stevens Point (3-1).
