The Burlington Co-op gymnastics team served notice that it will be a force to be reckoned with.

Led by freshman Malia Bronson and sophomore Regan Cassidy, Burlington Co-op finished third in the team competition at the WIAA State Gymnastics Championships at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids.

Franklin Co-op won its third straight team championship and its seventh in the last eight years. Franklin Co-op scored 147.8333. Arrowhead was second (144.4667) and Burlington Co-op scored 143.0667.

Burlington’s top performance was on the uneven bars, where the Demons scored 35.967, second only to Franklin’s 37.617.

Cassidy, who attends Lake Geneva Badger, had the individual high score for Burlington with a 9.517, the high score in the meet on the uneven bars. Freshman Ava Trent, also of Badger, scored 9.217 and junior Jessica Zeitler, of Wilmot, scored 8.767.

Bronson had the top individual score for Burlington Co-op in floor exercise (9.283) and on balance beam (9.333). Trent had the high individual score in vaulting (9.000).

In Saturday’s individual competition, Cassidy and Bronson will vie for medals. They are Burlington Co-op’s first individual qualifiers since 2015.
