RACINE INVITATIONAL: Case had the best finish among the five Racine County teams in the annual Racine Invitational, tying for fifth in the 24-team tournament at Park.

The Eagles won their pool by going 4-2 in games, then had to wait for a while, coach Dan Burch said, until their crossover match.

Case beat Cedarburg 21-15, 21-16 in the crossover match, then lost to Mukwonago 14-21, 21-7, 15-6 in the quarterfinals.

After the first game, Eagles outside hitter Saphar Grant was pulled from the match because of a sore shoulder, Burch said.

“He had been battling through a shoulder injury and the trainer and I decided to pull him out,” Burch said. “In the second and third games, we struggled and Mukwonago served effectively.”

Burch said libero David Sandridge had 35 digs and passed well, and that setter Seth Sanchez did a “phenomenal job” running the offense with 54 assists for Case (6-3 overall matches).

Burlington tied Case for fifth, beating Kenosha Indian Trail 21-19, 13-21, 15-10 and losing to eventual runner-up Milwaukee Pius XI 19-21, 21-18, 15-11.

Malik Tiedt had 38 kills, David Paul had 78 assists and Trey Krause had 53 digs for the Demons (7-4-1 overall).

Horlick (9-4) got 25 kills from Kyle Semrad and 55 assists and five aces from Eric Barrientez as the Rebels went 2-4 in pool play and 1-1 in the consolation bracket.
