McKenzie Sanchez, Case
Three years, three medals for McKenzie Sanchez.
The Case High School junior had her highest finish in her three trips to state, finishing second Saturday at the WIAA Division 1 State Girls Swimming and Diving Championships in Madison.
Sanchez scored 494.45, her best performance at state, and finished second to Neenah sophomore Av Osero, who totaled 511.50 to defend her title.
Sanchez led after the first five dives and after eight dives, but Osero had a higher degree of difficulty in her final three dives.
Sanchez finished fifth as a freshman and fourth last year as a sophomore.
Horlick boys volleyball
The Rebels gave everything they had Friday night in their quarterfinal match at the WIAA State Boys Volleyball Tournament.
Horlick wasn’t quite able to match up with powerful Milwaukee Marquette, losing 25-13, 25-17, 25-15, but the journey to state was a satisfying one.
The Rebels were 9-16 last season, but made a complete turnaround and went 26-11 to make their first WIAA state tournament appearance since 2013 and eighth overall.
Horlick made a run in the second game, getting within 12-10, but Marquette pulled away after that. The Hilltoppers won the title, sweeping all three of their matches in straight sets.
Kyle Semrad had nine kills, Eric Barrientez had a 16 assists and Barrientez and Zach Romano each had five digs.
