The Union Grove High School boys soccer team keeps recording more firsts.

The latest occurred Tuesday, when the Broncos defeated Lake Geneva Badger 5-3 in a Southern Lakes Conference match at Union Grove. Coach Sean Jung said it was the first time in program history that the Broncos defeated Badger.

After spotting Badger a goal in the second minute, Union Grove came roaring back with two Cole Anderson goals within the first 12 minutes. Also scoring two goals for the Broncos (9-0-1, 2-0 SLC) was Logan Farrington.

Union Grove, ranked ninth in the latest Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 2 state poll, have an SLC showdown Thursday against Delavan-Darien at Delavan. The Comets are ranked No. 1 in Divison 3.

HORLICK 3, PARK 0: Behind goals from Alessandro Bianchi, Rodrigo Valencia and Michael Shields, the Rebels defeated Park in a Southeast Conference match at Pershing Park.

“Park was definitely in control the majority of the game,” Horlick coach Matt Tuttle said.

Added Park coach Zeke Gutierrez, “I felt we had possession of the ball most of the time. But Horlick defended very well.”

Zachary Heiman had 23 saves for Horlick (2-5-1, 1-2 SEC), which was starting three freshmen. Park is 2-4-1 overall and 1-2 in SEC.

CASE 6, INDIAN TRAIL 5: Ethan Hoard scored the first of his two goals 30 seconds into the match and the Eagles went on to persevere in this Southeast Conference match at Case.

With 22 minutes remaining, a Case player received a red card and the Eagles played short-handed the rest of the way. Jaxon Ford and Jake Passehl each scored for Case (2-9, 1-2 SEC) after the ejection.

Chase Werner made seven saves in goal.

Horlick 3, Park 0 -- Horlick goals/assists: Alessandro Bianchi (Michael Shields), Rodrigo Valencia (Tony Pitrof), Michael Shields (unassisted). Horlick saves -- Zachary Heiman, 23.

PRAIRIE 5, ST. CATHERINE’S 2: The Hawks swept all the doubles matches and defeated St. Catherine’s in a Metro Classic Conference dual match at Lockwood Park. Leading Prairie was Sarah Gesner and Haley Jones, who defeated Caitlin Cretton and Claire Veranth 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. St. Catherine’s was led by No. 1 singles player Rachel Anderson, who defeated Camille Cruise 6-1, 6-1.

WESTOSHA CENTRAL 6, BURLINGTON 1: No.1 singles player May Jagodzinski picked up the lone win for the Demons over Stephanie Dopuch 6-3, 6-3 in their Southern Lakes Conference loss at Burlington.

Girls volleyball

PARK 3, HORLICK 2: The Panthers edged the Rebels 15-25, 25-20, 25-20, 17-25, 15-13 in this Southeast Conference game at Park.

The Rebels (2-13, 0-3) picked up the first game in decisive fashion, before the height of the Panthers became a factor.

“They have a lot of tall girls on their team, and their height hurt us on the defensive side,” Horlick coach Tom Penzkowksi said.

It marked the first time in Penzkowski’s career that his team lost to the Panthers.

Park (1-2) was led by Morgan Hunt with 12 kills and four aces. Other leaders were Jade Griffin (10 kills, three blocks), Auriel Stills (28 assists, five aces) and Justine Gerardo (15 digs).

Kelsey Jacobs led the Rebels with 30 assists and three aces. Sam Hills led the defense with 24 digs.

WATERFORD 3, ELKHORN 0: Aspyn Krygiel mixed up her sets and got Waterford’s middles and right side involved, coach Ashley Inglish said, and the Wolverines cruised in this Southern Lakes Conference match at Waterford. Ashley Ramczyk and Gabi Ramczyk had season-high hitting percentages.

UNION GROVE 3, BADGER 0: Alternately functioning as a setter and front-row hitter, Karlee Lois compiled 18 assists and 11 kills in the Broncos’ 25-18, 25-13, 25-12 Southern Lakes Conference victory at Union Grove.

Allison Lentz tied Lois with a team-high 15 digs. Collectively, the Broncos (13-7, 1-2 SLC) had six blocks and 60 digs.

WESTOSHA CENTRAL 3, BURLINGTON 0: The Demons had problems controlling the ball in serve receive, co-coach Teri Leach said, and lost 25-18, 25-12, 26-24 in this Southern Lakes Conference match at Burlington. Abby Koenen had 11 kills and 13 digs and Kaley Blake 24 set assists for the Demons (10-7, 2-1 SEC).

INDIAN TRAIL 3, CASE 2: Led by Abigail Heried’s 19 kills and 19 digs, the Eagles narrowly lost a five-set Southeast Conference match at Case.

Indian Trail came back to win 25-20, 20-25, 26-28, 25-18, 16-14. Lauren Willing contributed 20 assists for the Eagles (6-12, 0-3 SEC).

WATERTOWN 3, WATERFORD 1: The Wolverines were sluggish all night Monday and lost a nonconference match 25-17, 25-17, 25-23 at Watertown.

Mia Grunze had 12 kills and served 100 percent for Waterford, while Aspyn Krygiel had 27 assists and was also perfect serving. Mariah Grunze had nine kills and a team-high 16 digs.

FRANKLIN 99, CASE 87: Eagles sophomore Maya Frodl set a Franklin pool record in the 50-yard freestyle, outsprinting her Southeast Conference counterparts in 26.27 seconds.

Frodl also anchored the 200 freestyle relay for Case (0-2), which timed 1:49.93 for a nearly 12-second winning margin.

INDIAN TRAIL 135, PARK 31: Najee Jones finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 2:43.51 for Park in this Southeast Conference meet at Callahan Branch YMCA in Kenosha.
