The Racine Lutheran High School girls soccer team overcame ugly weather for a pretty victory Friday.

Sophomore Caroline Strande scored all of the Crusaders goals and junior first-year goalkeeper Lexi Thomas made three saves as Lutheran beat Cristo Rey Jesuit of Milwaukee 5-2 in a nonconference match at Pershing Park in Racine.

Conditions were less than ideal — cold, wind and a muddy field — but it didn’t seem to bother Strande, who scored three unassisted goals in the first half and added two goals in the second half, one unassisted and the other assisted by Hannah Mains.

Thomas, who never played in goal before this season, made three saves for the Crusaders (1-1) and the two goals she allowed were wind-blown, Lutheran coach Kevin McNamara said.

“I’ve been very impressed by her,” McNamara said of Thomas. “She’s stepped up and done really well for us.”

KENOSHA TREMPER 5, ST. CATHERINE’S 2: At Ameche Field in Kenosha, the Angels trailed 2-1 at the half, but Tremper had the wind and the advantage in the second half, scoring three goals in a short span.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sofi Wentorf, who had 10 saves, helped keep it close for St. Catherine’s (2-1) in the first half. Coach Ben Lake said she made a save on a breakaway and a few other nice saves.

Junior Sadie Gilbert scored in the first half for the Angels, assisted by senior Molly O’Brien, and O’Brien scored the second half goal unassisted.
