The Prairie School boys soccer team played two very different matches in its own quadrangular over the last two days.
Saturday, in the second match of the quad, the top-ranked Hawks (Division 4, Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association state poll) got a hat trick from Nick Hawkins on the way to a 9-0 victory over West Allis Hale.
Friday, Prairie played unranked Sturgeon Bay to a 0-0 tie behind a strong defensive effort.
Hawkins scored in the sixth, 20th and 62nd minutes against Hale, with his first two goals helping the Hawks (4-1-1) to a 6-0 lead at the half. Six of the nine goals and three of the assists were by underclassmen, coach Corey Oakland said.
The shutouts were the third and fourth in a row for the Hawks. Will Sullivan had the solo shutout against Sturgeon Bay and Sullivan and Quinton Stafford combined for the shutout against Hale.
“We had a good response (Saturday) to a physically demanding game the night before,” Oakland said.
UNION GROVE 7, RACINE LUTHERAN 0: Cole Anderson had four goals and an assist to lead the Broncos over the Crusaders in a nonconference match at Union Grove.
Anderson scored in the first and 13th minutes of the first half and again in the 46th and 51st minutes. Michael Polzin didn’t have to make a save in posting the shutout.
Lutheran, which got seven combined saves from Chris Romero and Thomas Asher, is 0-6-1.
