The Catholic Central High School girls basketball team didn’t waste any time on Wednesday night.
The Lady Toppers took control early and went on defeat Stockbridge 60-25 in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal at Burlington.
The Lady Toppers led 31-14 at halftime and never looked back in advancing to a regional semifinal against No. 2 seed Sheboygan Lutheran at 7 p.m. Friday at Sheboygan.
“We came out pretty strong,’’ Catholic Central coach Joe Spierenburg said. “We used a full-court press and got them to turn the ball over.’’
Catholic Central had three players score in double figures against Stockbridge (11-9). Senior Mikelle Miles led the way with 13 points, while juniors Emma Klein and Elizabeth Klein finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Miles also grabbed a game-leading nine rebounds.
In all, 10 Lady Toppers scored in the game.
On playing Sheboygan Lutheran, which is 16-8, Spierenburg said, “We’re fully capable of going up there to Sheboygan and beating them.’’
