The UW-Parkside men’s basketball team found its form in the second half on Saturday.

Trailing 42-36 at halftime, the Rangers had a big second half against Missouri S&T and beat the Miners 82-74 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at Rolla, Mo.

Parkside (4-10, 2-2 GLVC) won its second game a in a row – the first time this season they have done that. Missouri S&T fell to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in GLVC games.

Parkside started well, jumping out to a 14-2 lead. The Miners responded with their own run and took a 22-19 lead, and a 42-36 advantage at the half.

In the second half, Parkside went on a 7-0 run to make it 44-43. The Rangers tied the game 50-50 and 54-54 before grabbing its first lead of the second half off a 3-pointer by Espen Fjaerestad with 9:24 to play. Parkside then used a 12-4 lead to take a 69-58 lead with 5:07 to play and held onto the lead the rest of the way.

“Our guys just got tougher in the second half,” said Parkside coach Luke Reigel. “We played great defense in the second half and ran our offense really well.”

Adam Bonk made seven 3s and finished with a game-high 21 points. Fjaerestad added 18, while Goran Zagorac had 15 points and nine rebounds. Ramar Evans had 12 points and six assists.

MISSOURI S&T 79, PARKSIDE 63: At Rolla, Mo., the Rangers had a tough first quarter and couldn’t recover in a Great Lakes valley Conference loss on Saturday.

The Miners held Parkside scoreless through the first three and half minutes of the game, led 9-0 early and were up 24-7 at the end of the first quarter. Missouri S&T ended the period on an 11-0 run.

The Miners ked 43-19 at half.

Parkside had a cold shooting night, going making 22 of 72 shots (30 percent) and 4 for 27 on 3-point attempts (15 percent).

Carolina Rahkonen scored a career-high 21 points, with 17 coming in the fourth quarter. Ali Bettencourt added 15 and Lucija Bilic had 10.
